This is a highly detailed TWO YEAR crash course for those wanting a taste of wax carving and metal polishing, but don't want the commitment of the full intensive programs! We carve one smooth stacking ring in wax, and explore multiple ways to texture wax. In the second half of the course we professionally polish two metal rings (one smooth, one textured) with power tools! Perfect for entry-level complete beginners.
Note: this course does NOT include lost wax casting.
Students who enrol into this course cannot be upgraded or pay the difference to access the "Madame Mak Wax Academy" course or the "Metal Polishing & Gem Setting" course.
Introduction to stacking rings, plus some handy information about the lost wax casting process (how your wax ring becomes metal) as well as where to have your rings cast!
A must watch safety module before commencing this course.
A list of basic wax carving tools, and where to shop for your supplies!
Carve your first stacking ring, learn the fundamentals of wax working and take it from there!
In this series I demonstrate how to texture waxes a variety of different ways! I take one of these wax rings into the metal polishing segment (after the ring has been cast offsite), and demonstrate how to carefully clean a heavily textured ring!
In this module I show you how to repair a wax ring (cracked) as well as how to size your wax model up and down before sending it to be cast in your metal of choice!
Read this guide about what happens to your wax model, and how it ends up becoming metal (it's known as the lost wax casting process)! After you have taken your wax to be cast in metal, return to the modules below to learn how to professionally polish your metal rings! (Note: the techniques demonstrated are suitable for brass and sterling silver).
So, you've had your first few rings lost wax cast. It's now in its raw metal form and you have no idea what to do! Join me for a professional polishing extravaganza! There are also notes on how to polish your rings "budget style" if you don't want to have power tools, but there is no demonstration for this. The demonstrations are for professional finishing with power tools and attachments, because that's the level I teach at and encourage others to strive for!
A must watch safety module when you're polishing your rings! Do not proceed with the course until you have watched this.
In this module I demonstrate how I polish my "smooth" stacking rings, using the professional method with power tools (a micromotor) and relevant attachments. If you wish to avoid using power tools and polishing compounds, follow my written (PDF) guide for the "budget method".
In this video I demonstrate how to carefully polish a heavily textured stacking ring, with a few extra considerations (relative to the smooth stacking ring) to prevent ablating the texture.
Some handy bonus information for you. They're not tutorials, but you'll thank me later!
Thank you for joining my wax carving course! I hope you've had fun and love it as much as I do!
